Before the search operation begins, available information such as the vessel’s last known anchor position, estimated release point, water depth, current conditions and direction of vessel movement is reviewed to define the most appropriate search area.

Where underwater visibility and site conditions permit, divers can conduct a systematic search of the seabed to locate the lost anchor and associated chain. For larger or more difficult search areas, additional seabed scanning or locating methods may be used where appropriate to help narrow the search area before diver intervention.

After the anchor has been located, the surrounding area is inspected to determine whether it is lying freely on the seabed, partially buried, fouled or obstructed by other underwater structures. The recovery method is then planned according to the anchor’s size, position, seabed conditions and the lifting arrangements available on the vessel or supporting equipment.

Our divers can secure suitable lifting arrangements to the anchor and assist with the controlled recovery operation. Where required, the anchor may be freed from sediment or underwater obstructions before lifting. The operation is coordinated with the vessel’s crew and surface personnel to allow the recovered anchor to be safely brought back to the vessel and returned to its designated handling system or deck area.

The search and recovery procedure is adapted to the specific circumstances of each incident, with the objective of locating the lost equipment efficiently while maintaining controlled and safe underwater operations.
