Anode Welding
Sacrificial anodes play an important role in protecting submerged steel structures against galvanic and electrochemical corrosion. Our divers provide professional underwater anode installation and welding services for commercial vessels, yachts, port structures and steel piles.
On vessels and yachts, sacrificial anodes help reduce corrosion on the hull and other submerged metallic components by providing a more reactive material that corrodes in place of the protected steel. Replacing worn or missing anodes can therefore help preserve hull plating, extend steel service life and support the long-term condition of underwater structures.
For port structures, anodes can also be installed on steel piles and other submerged metal components. By improving cathodic protection, the aim is to reduce corrosion of the steel itself and help protect critical pile connection areas where steel structures interface with concrete sections.
A Controlled Approach To Underwater Anode Welding
Each operation begins with an assessment of the existing anodes, steel condition, required protection area and installation points. Our divers then prepare the selected areas and carry out underwater welding or anode attachment according to the required scope of work.
The type, size and position of the anodes can be selected according to the vessel or structure requirements, existing cathodic protection arrangement and the condition of the submerged steel. Where required, old or depleted anodes can be removed and replaced with new units.
For port piles and marine structures, the objective is not only to extend the service life of the steel pile, but also to reduce corrosion-related deterioration around pile-to-structure connection areas and support the durability of adjacent concrete sections.
